Edgewater Wireless Systems Inc. (TSXV: YFI) (OTC: KPIFF), the provider of Wi-Fi Spectrum Slicing technology for residential and enterprise markets, will start accelerating initiatives to on-shore silicon development and commercialization for the next-generation of Wi-Fi Spectrum Slicing silicon solutions.
“On-shoring silicon design and development programs allow us to more directly control silicon supply lines, including design and quality assurance. The strategic initiative will bring us closer access to the North American foundry ecosystem,” said Andrew Skafel, President and CEO of Edgewater Wireless Systems Inc. “This strategic initiative marks a significant milestone in the commercialization of the next-generation of Spectrum Slicing silicon solutions and closely aligns with North American initiatives to develop capabilities closer to home.”
Edgewater Silicon Process & Supply Line Control:
Edgewater’s strategic initiative offers it more direct control of its silicon process and supply line, including critical design and quality assurance efforts. It provides closer access to North American foundries both now and in the future — creating more jobs for chip design and QA engineers in Canada and the United States. On-shoring the design and design verification processes will effectively allow complete domestic development in preparation for prototype manufacturing and lab validation of full-duplex Wi-Fi ASICs.
Today, foundries using the most advanced manufacturing process are concentrated outside North America and are operated by Samsung in South Korea and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) in Taiwan. Numerous government, semiconductor and industry incentive programs are becoming available in Canada and the United States over the next ten years. They aim to foster innovation, research, development and yield new fabrication facilities while attracting additional investment and ushering in a new era of domestic silicon production. With the strategic on-shoring move, Edgewater aims to bring its next-generation technology to the forefront of these North American initiatives and position itself positively for the capital programs being made available to North American chip manufacturers, product developers, and R&D thought leaders.
