Silvaco Group, Inc. (“Silvaco”), a provider of TCAD, EDA software, and design IP, has announced the successful implementation of its library characterization, optimization, and circuit simulation tools by SilTerra Malaysia Sdn Bhd (“SilTerra”). The tools, including Viola, Cello, and SmartSpice, have significantly boosted the efficiency of SilTerra’s research and development (R&D) teams in developing their foundry standard cell IPs.
SilTerra is a globally recognized 200mm semiconductor foundry, specializing in the production of Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (“CMOS”) technologies for advanced logic, BCD, mixed-signal, radio frequency, and high voltage applications. The company has also ventured into more advanced technology fields, such as Silicon Photonics, Bio-photonics, Micro-electromechanical Systems (“MEMS”) on CMOS, and Gallium Nitride (“GaN”), also known as “Emerging Technologies.” SilTerra is strategically backed by Dagang NeXchange Berhad (“DNeX”), listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia, and Beijing Integrated Circuit Advanced Manufacturing and High-End Equipment Equity Investment Fund Center (Limited Partnership) (“CGP Fund”).
Sang Hyun Park, Director of Design Technology at SilTerra, expressed his satisfaction with the combination of Viola, Cello, and SmartSpice, highlighting their efficiency, productivity, and ease of setup for library development. “We have created a total of around 50 libraries in-house so far, and the count continues to increase. This achievement was made possible by a relatively small team. If it weren’t for Silvaco’s tools, we would have needed a significantly larger workforce. Silvaco’s support played a crucial role in enabling our small team to quickly become productive in creating our foundry standard cell libraries,” he explained.
Arjun Kumar Kantimahanti, Senior Vice President of Technology Development at SilTerra, acknowledged the positive impact of Silvaco’s IP development solution suite on their internal design teams. He noted that the suite has helped them deliver the required IP on time and facilitate the transfer of design knowledge and methodology to trainees, interns, and university programs.
Dr. Babak Taheri, CEO of Silvaco, expressed pleasure in seeing SilTerra successfully adopt their solutions, emphasizing Silvaco’s commitment to continuous improvement. “We offer a comprehensive range of solutions tailored specifically for foundries and fabless semiconductor companies, and we are committed to continuous improvement of our solutions to provide our customers a competitive edge in this vital market,” he stated.
Dan FitzPatrick, Vice President and General Manager of the EDA Business Unit of Silvaco, highlighted the flexibility and unified platform provided by Cello, Viola, and SmartSpice for standard cell library migration, optimization, and characterization. He emphasized that leveraging this solution allows companies like SilTerra to optimize their library generation processes, leading to streamlined operations and resource savings.
Silvaco’s suite of tools has proven to be instrumental in enhancing SilTerra’s efficiency in developing their foundry standard cell IPs. This successful collaboration showcases the value that Silvaco’s solutions bring to the semiconductor industry, empowering companies to stay competitive in a dynamic market landscap
