Silicon Labs Unveils xG22E Family for Energy Harvesting in IoT

Silicon Labs has announced the launch of its xG22E family of Wireless SoCs, targeting the burgeoning market of energy harvesting for IoT devices. This release marks the company’s debut in ultra-low power operation designed for battery-free applications.

 

Comprising the BG22E, MG22E, and FG22E SoCs, the xG22E series offers IoT device manufacturers a platform to develop high-performance devices utilizing Bluetooth Low Energy (LE), 802.15.4-based, or Sub-GHz wireless connectivity. Notably, these devices can function without relying on traditional power sources, instead harnessing energy from ambient sources such as light, radio waves, and motion.

 

To complement the xG22E family, Silicon Labs has partnered with e-peas, a provider of Power Managed Integrated Circuits (PMICs) for energy harvesting applications. Together, they have developed two energy harvesting shields tailored for integration with Silicon Labs’ xG22E Explorer Kit.

 

The xG22E Explorer Kit offers developers a versatile platform with customizable peripherals and debugging options optimized for energy harvesting applications. The energy harvesting shields, co-developed with e-peas, cater to various energy sources and storage technologies, ensuring seamless integration and enhanced efficiency.

 

This collaboration underscores Silicon Labs’ commitment to advancing battery-free IoT solutions and fostering sustainability within the IoT ecosystem. By addressing challenges related to energy efficiency and autonomy, Silicon Labs aims to accelerate the adoption of energy harvesting technology across industries.
