Intel Corporation (INTC) makes a significant stride into the future with the inauguration of Intel Foundry, an eco-conscious systems foundry tailored for the AI era. The company unveiled an extended process roadmap and garnered support from key industry players, including Synopsys, Cadence, Siemens, and Ansys.
The launch took place at Intel’s inaugural foundry event, Intel Foundry Direct Connect, where leaders from various sectors gathered. The event featured prominent figures like U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, Arm CEO Rene Haas, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger expressed the profound impact of AI on technology and the silicon powering it. “For Intel Foundry, the world’s first systems foundry for the AI era, we can create new markets and revolutionize how the world uses technology to improve people’s lives,” stated Gelsinger.
The extended process technology roadmap introduces Intel 14A to the leading-edge node plan. Intel remains on track with its ambitious five-nodes-in-four-years (5N4Y) process roadmap, aiming to regain process leadership with Intel 18A in 2025.
Microsoft’s commitment to Intel Foundry’s approach was highlighted during the event. CEO Satya Nadella mentioned selecting a chip design for production on Intel 18A, emphasizing the platform shift’s transformative potential.
Intel Foundry’s comprehensive suite of offerings, including FCBGA 2D+, aligns with its commitment to a new node every two years and continuous evolution, providing customers a pathway to advance their products on Intel’s leading process technology.
Intellectual property and EDA partners, including Synopsys, Cadence, Siemens, Ansys, Lorentz, and Keysight, affirmed readiness for Intel process and packaging designs, accelerating advanced chip designs on Intel 18A.
The event also unveiled an “Emerging Business Initiative,” showcasing a collaboration with Arm for cutting-edge foundry services, fostering innovation and growth for startups developing Arm-based technology.
Intel’s systems foundry approach differentiates itself in the AI era by offering full-stack optimization, empowering customers to innovate across the entire system. Stuart Pann, SVP of Intel Foundry, emphasized the world-class foundry’s resilience, sustainability, and security.
In alignment with global trends, Intel committed to becoming the industry’s most sustainable foundry, reinforcing goals for renewable electricity, water usage, waste management, and net-zero emissions by 2040 and 2050.
