OMNIVISION Sets New Standard with OS08C10 4K2K Image Sensor

OMNIVISION OSO8C 10

Leading semiconductor solutions developer OMNIVISION has introduced the OS08C10, an 8-megapixel backside illumination (BSI) image sensor designed to elevate imaging standards in challenging lighting conditions. The sensor, catering to the demands of home and professional security, IoT, and action cameras, boasts a pixel size of 1.45 µm and supports 4K2K resolution at high frame rates.

Featuring both staggered high dynamic range (HDR) and single exposure dual analog gain (DAG) capabilities, the OS08C10 is equipped to perform exceptionally well in varying light environments. Cheney Zhang, senior marketing manager at OMNIVISION, emphasized the sensor’s innovative features: “Our new 1.45 µm pixel OS08C10 image sensor provides improved sensitivity and optimized readout noise, closing the gap with big-pixel image sensors that have traditionally been required for high-performance imaging in the security market.”

The OS08C10 sensor delivers real-time 4K video at 60 frames per second (fps) with minimal artifacts. Its selective conversion gain (SCG) pixel design allows flexibility in choosing low and high conversion gain, adapting to different lighting conditions. Employing correlated multi-sampling (CMS) technology, the sensor reduces readout noise, enhancing signal-to-noise ratio (SNR1) and low-light performance.

Additionally, the OS08C10 incorporates on-chip defective pixel correction (DPC) technology, ensuring real-time correction of defective pixels that may occur throughout the sensor’s lifespan, especially in challenging operational conditions. This feature significantly improves the sensor’s quality and reliability, surpassing standard devices.

Built on OMNIVISION’s PureCel®Plus-S stacked-die technology, the OS08C10 achieves high-resolution 8MP in a compact 1.45 µm BSI pixel format. Remarkably, the sensor operates at an industry-low power consumption of 300 mW (60 fps), making it a cost-effective 4K2K solution for security, IoT, and action camera applications.
