Kontron Unveils VX307H: A High-Performance 3U VPX Plug-In Card for Harsh Environments

Kontron

In a move to bolster the capabilities of embedded computing applications in challenging conditions, Kontron, a leading provider of IoT/Embedded Computing Technology (ECT), has introduced the VX307H. This 3U VPX Plug-In card is specifically designed for high-performance computing in harsh environments, making it an ideal choice for mission systems in Defense, Avionics, and Transportation sectors.

Powered by energy-efficient Intel Xeon D-2700 processors, the VX307H offers three versions with 12, 16, and 20 cores respectively. Compared to its predecessors, this latest offering from Kontron delivers a remarkable performance boost of up to 2.97 times. Moreover, the card can be easily adapted to fit size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C) blade applications, ensuring flexibility and efficiency.

One of the standout features of the VX307H is the integration of cutting-edge technologies. The card incorporates the latest VITA48.8 Air-Flow Through (AFT) cooling technology, enabling effective heat dissipation in demanding environments. Additionally, specialized built-in instructions for Artificial Intelligence (VNNI) and Signal Processing (AVX512) allow for optimal utilization of the impressive processing power provided by the card.

The VX307H offers a wide range of connectivity options, including an industry-first 100G Ethernet for Plug-In 3U VPX cards. With up to x16 PCIe Gen4, the card ensures there are no bottlenecks in the expansion plane, providing exceptional data communication capabilities. This makes it perfectly suited for high-density computing platforms required for modern applications such as C5ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance).

Christophe Ferrande, Kontron Product Manager, emphasized the ruggedness and efficiency of the VX307H, stating, “The VX307H is designed for harsh environments and solves the challenging space and power constraints of high-performance blade computers targeting a minimum number of boards.”

Another noteworthy aspect of the VX307H is its long-term availability, with a typical lifecycle of 10 years. Furthermore, the card is designed, integrated, and technically supported in France, granting it exemption from International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) restrictions.

With the launch of the VX307H, Kontron has once again demonstrated its commitment to providing advanced computing solutions that meet the demanding requirements of industries operating in extreme environments. The card’s enhanced performance, adaptability, and exceptional data communication capabilities position it as a valuable building block for mission-critical systems in Defense, Avionics, and Transportation sectors.
