Diodes Incorporated (Nasdaq: DIOD) has announced the launch of its first automotive-compliant 3D linear Hall effect sensor, designed to enhance precision in rotary motion and proximity detection for modern vehicles. The AH4930Q is engineered to detect magnetic fields in three axes—X, Y, and Z—offering contactless sensing solutions for a wide range of automotive applications, including infotainment system selectors, gear shifters, door locks, and seat adjusters.

The AH4930Q features an integrated 12-bit temperature sensor for real-time compensation, paired with a robust signal path and a 12-bit analog-to-digital converter for high-resolution measurement—accurate down to 1 Gauss per bit. A built-in I²C interface enables efficient communication with host systems at speeds up to 1Mbps, supporting rapid data transfer and system calibration.

The sensor offers three operating modes and a power-down option, consuming as little as 9nA. For power-sensitive applications, an ultra-low-power mode draws only 13µA at 10Hz, while a fast-sampling mode supports constant monitoring at 3.8mA. With a quick 10µs wake-up and 4µs response time, the AH4930Q ensures fast, accurate performance.

Operating across a voltage range of 2.8V to 5.5V and temperatures from -40°C to +125°C, the sensor is housed in a compact 6-pin SOT26 package. It is priced at $0.50 per unit in 1,000-piece volumes. A non-automotive version, the AH4930, is also available for industrial and commercial use.
