Toshiba Unveils Breakthrough Motor Control Tech for Effortless Field-Oriented Control

Toshiba motor control software development Kit MCU Motor Studio Ver.3.0

Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation (“Toshiba”) has unveiled two significant additions to its motor control technology arsenal. In its latest release of the “MCU Motor Studio Ver.3.0” software development kit, Toshiba has integrated a new position estimation control technology tailored to streamline field-oriented control (FOC). Simultaneously, the company has introduced “Motor Tuning Studio Ver.1.0,” designed to automate the calculation of motor parameters. Both tools are now available for users.

Field-oriented control (FOC) represents a highly efficient motor control method, yet its implementation is often complicated due to the intricacies associated with tuning motor drivers using proportional-integral (PI) control gain. This process typically involves adjusting parameters for position, speed, and current control, a task prone to trial and error adjustments. Previously, while MCU Motor Studio facilitated motor control using established parameters, it lacked a feature for directly extracting parameters from the motor.

Toshiba’s novel position estimation control method, rooted in a flux observer and devoid of PI control for position estimation, promises simplified adjustments during motor evaluation. This innovative approach not only simplifies tuning but also enhances stability during high-load operation compared to traditional position estimation control techniques. The updated MCU Motor Studio Ver.3.0 now incorporates this groundbreaking method, while still supporting conventional position control methods.

The combination of MCU Motor Studio with MCU Motor Tuning Studio provides users with a seamless process for deriving initial motor parameters and initiating evaluation. Interested parties can access Motor Tuning Studio through Toshiba’s Customer Inquiry Form.

Toshiba continues its commitment to advancing carbon neutrality and promoting a circular economy. The company pledges ongoing expansion of its microcontroller lineup for FOC and motor control software development kits to support the widespread adoption of highly efficient motors, aligning with its sustainability objectives.
