Mojo Vision, a prominent micro-LED company, has announced a notable achievement by successfully integrating red, green, and blue (RGB) sub-pixels into a single panel. This technological advancement is facilitated by the use of Mojo Vision’s proprietary Quantum Dots (QDs) and advanced integration processes. The proof of concept involves the integration of 1.3μm diameter red and green QD-based sub-pixels alongside 1.3μm diameter native blue sub-pixels, showcasing the company’s progress in the development of single-panel RGB micro-LED displays.
This accomplishment is considered a significant stride toward scaling micro-LED technology and expanding its applications in augmented reality (AR) devices, particularly in various outdoor environments. Mojo Vision’s emphasis on blue micro-LEDs at 200- and 300-mm wafer scale, combined with its proprietary high-performance QD technology, aims to offer more scalable and commercially viable solutions compared to currently available QDs designed for conventional displays like LCD.
Nikhil Balram, CEO of Mojo Vision, underscored the importance of their proprietary QD process in addressing industry challenges, stating, “Mojo Vision’s proprietary process for robust QDs addresses the common industry challenge of achieving high brightness and durability when creating single-panel RGB displays. This process ensures the technology’s reliability, coupling high image quality with efficiency and lifespan.”
The breakthrough is anticipated to open avenues for wearables and smart glasses equipped with artificial intelligence (AI). Micro-LEDs, known for their superior display resolution, brightness, contrast, and dynamic range, are crucial for rendering detailed images and supporting advanced image recognition in disruptive industries.
Mojo Vision has a track record of achieving industry milestones with its high-performance micro-LED technology. Previous accomplishments include the introduction of a world-class 300mm GaN-on-Silicon micro-LED array wafer, showcasing progress in maturing micro-LED manufacturing. The company also demonstrated a vibrant red micro-LED microdisplay using 1.3μm diameter red QD regions on top of 1.3μm diameter blue micro-LEDs.
Dr. Achin Bhowmik, President of the Society for Information Display (SID), acknowledged the significance of Mojo Vision’s progress, stating, “Augmented reality technology continues to progress toward the goal of seamlessly blending immersive, virtual experiences into the physical world. Mojo Vision’s single-panel RGB display is a significant advancement toward realizing this promise.”
