In response to the evolving needs of system architects and design engineers, Microchip Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: MCHP) announces a range of resources and services to support the adoption of its PolarFire FPGAs and SoCs. The offerings include the industry’s first mid-range industrial edge stack, customizable cryptography and boot libraries, and conversion tools for migrating FPGA designs to PolarFire devices.

Microchip’s expanded suite of tools and services reinforces the capabilities of its proven PolarFire family of devices, including the only RISC-V SoC FPGA available in volume production. With a focus on power efficiency, security, and reliability, the new resources enable secure edge computing, analytics, machine learning, and high-availability data interconnects for Industrial IoT endpoints.

According to Shakeel Peera, Microchip FPGA’s Vice President of Strategy, the intelligent edge demands superior performance across various aspects. The mid-range industrial edge stack and related tools provide more than just automation IP, empowering system architects to meet the requirements of edge applications.

Bruce Weyer, Microchip FPGA’s Corporate Vice President, highlights that customers are gravitating towards PolarFire FPGAs and SoCs due to the unprecedented design flexibility and efficiency they offer. The company’s technological leadership and RISC-V-based compute solutions allow for product differentiation and accelerated innovation.

Supporting their FPGA-based embedded processor portfolio, Microchip boasts a broad RISC-V development ecosystem, with over 60 companies in its Mi-V ecosystem.

The newly introduced resources and conversion tools provide immediate benefits throughout the design and development process, making it seamless for designers to transition to PolarFire FPGAs and SoCs. The offerings include a comprehensive industrial edge stack for OPC/UA-based IIoT applications, customizable cryptography and boot soft IP libraries, direct conversion scripts for migration from other vendors’ FPGAs, and a high-performance AI/ML development flow.

Microchip also introduces a PolarFire SoC development kit for smart embedded vision solutions, a tutorial and resource guide on designing cool-temperature edge nodes, a power-consumption tutorial, and an evaluation tool for assessing design efficiency and thermal management.

Microchip’s FPGA design services encompass a wide range of support, from consulting and modeling to programming and firmware development.

Microchip’s Libero SoC Design Suite, featuring a rich IP library, and the VectorBlox Accelerator, compatible with popular frameworks, are available for licensing through Microchip’s website. The OPC/UA industrial edge stack is slated for availability this quarter, and specific pricing details can be obtained upon request.
