Microchip Launches Cutting-Edge Multi-Channel Temperature Sensors for Automotive Excellence

Microchip Sensors

Microchip Technology (Nasdaq: MCHP) has introduced the MCP998x family, comprising 10 automotive-qualified multi-channel remote temperature sensors. Addressing the imperative role of thermal management in automotive design, the MCP998x family stands out as one of the industry’s most comprehensive portfolios in response to the limited availability of multi-channel remote temperature sensors.

Designed for 1°C accuracy within a wide operational temperature range, the sensor family includes five variants featuring secure shutdown temperature setpoints impervious to software manipulation. This added layer of security ensures the integrity of monitoring systems.

Offering up to five channels of monitoring and integrated error correction, the MCP998x family provides support for systems overseeing multiple thermal elements. The sensors’ resistance error correction and beta compensation enhance accuracy without necessitating additional configuration, streamlining design processes and reducing board complexity and size.

Fanie Duvenhage, Vice President of Microchip’s mixed-signal and linear unit, emphasized, “This new family of remote temperature sensors is expanding customer choice in a product category that, historically, has offered limited options. With 10 devices to choose from, each offering better accuracy in very high-temperature applications and five with shutdown safety features, the MCP998x family gives customers a broad range of automotive multi-channel temperature sensors to choose from.”

Engineered for 2.5°C accuracy up to 125°C, the MCP998x family excels in high-temperature applications, making it well-suited for a range of automotive functions, including HID lamps, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), automotive servers, video processing, infotainment systems, engine control, telematics, and various body electronics.

To facilitate design and development, Microchip supports the MCP998x family with the new EV23P16A evaluation board.

The MCP998x family of multi-channel temperature sensors is now available, with prices starting at $0.63 each in 10,000-unit quantities, providing a cost-effective solution for automotive thermal management requirements.
