Kyocera Corporation, a global manufacturer of electronic components, has unveiled its latest innovation in connector technology with the introduction of the 6893 Series connectors for flexible printed circuit boards (FPC) and flexible flat cables (FFC). The new connectors feature a 0.5mm-pitch one-action locking mechanism, offering improved efficiency and reliability in electronics assembly.

The 6893 Series connectors address the growing demand for miniaturization and high-speed data transmission in various industries, including office equipment, industrial equipment, consumer electronics, and the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) market. These connectors play a crucial role in onboard electronics for EVs as well.

One of the key advantages of the one-action lock type FPC/FFC connectors is their ability to automate the insertion process, leading to significant labor savings. However, foreign matter adhering to the FPC/FFC can hinder full automation and cause contact failure. Recognizing this challenge, Kyocera has developed the 6893 Series connectors with a proprietary contact-pin structure that offers twice the foreign matter removal performance compared to previous products.

The innovative pin structure of the 6893 Series connectors provides two contact points in the same direction as the insertion point, improving the removal of foreign matter during the assembly process. This advancement ensures a superior electrical connection and reduces contact failure rates, enhancing the overall reliability of electronic devices.

Furthermore, Kyocera has reimagined the locking section structure of the connectors to enable one-action insertion and locking. Traditional connectors require multiple steps, including opening the lock, inserting the FPC/FFC, and closing the lock. With the 6893 Series, the locking section automatically engages when the FPC/FFC is inserted, reducing the assembly process to a single action. This significant reduction in assembly labor, by up to two-thirds, improves efficiency and supports automated assembly by robots.

The 6893 Series connectors also boast high heat resistance, making them suitable for automotive applications. With a temperature resistance of up to 125 degrees Celsius, the connectors can be mounted on in-vehicle devices such as heads-up displays (HUDs), instrument clusters, and central information displays (CIDs) that require strict high-temperature compliance.

Kyocera remains committed to expanding its connector line, including FPC/FFC connectors, to meet the evolving needs of the electronics industry. By continually innovating and developing products that address market demands, Kyocera aims to contribute to the advancement of electronics manufacturing and assembly processes.
