Kyocera Unveils Silicon Nitride Light for FTIR

Kyocera Silicon Nitride Light Source

Kyocera Corporation, a pioneering force in Fine Ceramic technology, has propelled the realm of Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometry forward with the introduction of a Silicon Nitride (SN) light source. Leveraging their extensive expertise in SN heaters and glow plug intellectual property, Kyocera’s latest innovation represents a significant leap for high-performance FTIR spectrometers. Renowned for their robustness and rapid heating capabilities, Kyocera’s SN heaters have been integral in various industrial applications, serving as glow plugs for diesel engines, igniters for industrial boilers, and more.

This expansion into spectrometry heralds a new chapter for Kyocera’s SN technology, presenting a light source engineered with exceptional emissivity critical for precise material identification. The inherent durability of Kyocera’s SN material offers promises of reduced failure rates, extended duty cycles, and minimized maintenance downtime, outstripping conventional light source solutions.

Central to the SN light source’s capabilities are its unique features:

Kyocera’s heater technology, integrated within silicon nitride ceramic, allows for tailored heating parameters such as wattage, output temperature, and heating area, catering to diverse application needs.

The SN heaters exhibit superior spectral emissivity in the infrared region compared to commonly used Silicon Carbide (SiC) ceramics, facilitating precise substance identification through distinct spectral peaks.

The construction of Kyocera’s SN heaters, encapsulating the heating element within the ceramic body, ensures exceptional longevity, maintaining consistent performance over 150,000 cycles.

Silicon nitride’s remarkable fracture toughness, exceeding that of silicon carbide, endows it with heightened resistance to cracks or chips during handling, installation, and replacement, ensuring enduring durability.
