Microchip Redefines Aviation Standards with Electric Power Innovation

Companion-Gate-Driver

Microchip Technology (Nasdaq: MCHP) has unveiled a new integrated actuation power solution aimed at addressing the aviation industry’s transition towards electric actuation systems. The solution, designed to cater to the industry’s growing demand for More Electric Aircraft (MEA), combines companion gate driver boards with Microchip’s Hybrid Power Drive (HPD) modules.

With sustainability and decarbonization driving the aviation sector’s agenda, the adoption of electric actuation systems has become a key focus. Microchip’s integrated solution offers a comprehensive approach to meeting this need, with a power range spanning from 5 kVA to 20 kVA, suitable for various aircraft applications.

The integrated actuation power solution streamlines the design and development process for customers by eliminating the need to create their own drive circuitry. This not only reduces design time but also minimizes resource expenditure and costs associated with development.

The high-reliability devices undergo rigorous testing to ensure compliance with environmental conditions outlined in DO-160 for airborne equipment. Additionally, they feature multiple protection features, enhancing operational safety and reliability.

Characterized by their efficiency and reliability, the companion gate driver boards are designed to operate within a temperature range of −55°C to +110°C, making them suitable for use in harsh aviation environments.

Moreover, the isolated companion gate driver boards require only a single 15V DC input for control and drive circuits, simplifying system architecture and reducing complexity.
