Thales, Google Partner to Simplify Android eSIM Activation

Thales and Google eSIM

Streamlined Process Aims to Address Growing Demand for User-Friendly Experiences

Thales and Google have joined forces to improve the activation process for eSIM technology on Android devices. The collaboration comes as the market anticipates a substantial increase in eSIM-enabled devices, with a forecast of 3.4 billion such devices, including tablets, laptops, and smartwatches, by 2025. With 98% of mobile network operators looking to offer eSIM services, the industry is focusing on simplifying user experiences.

Thales’ eSIM Discovery solution, developed in partnership with Google, plays a key role in this collaboration by streamlining the eSIM activation process on Android devices. The goal is to provide users with a straightforward, one-click activation experience.

During the initial activation of an eSIM-enabled device, Thales’ eSIM Discovery service facilitates a remote activation process. Users are prompted to download the required subscription for cellular access with just one click. In the case of a new mobile network subscription, users receive a notification, indicating that a profile is ready for download. Upon acceptance, the subscription is instantly downloaded, offering a seamless onboarding experience.

The cloud-based nature of the solution ensures global availability and scalability, making it compatible with all Android devices and carriers worldwide. Thales aims to provide a standardized, simple, and secure eSIM activation method, aligning with the broader goal of simplifying the adoption of eSIM across diverse devices and connectivity providers.

Eva Rudin, EVP Mobile Connectivity Solutions at Thales, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration, stating, “Thales is pleased to work with Google to provide a standardized, simple, and secure way to activate eSIM subscriptions, making life easier for users and Android device makers. Thales’ eSIM Discovery service seeks to help and simplify clients’ eSIM adoption across devices and connectivity providers.”
