Microchip Enhances Detroit Facility for Advanced Automotive Solutions

Microchip Detroit Automotive Technology

In response to the rapid evolution of the automotive industry driven by E-Mobility and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Microchip Technology (Nasdaq: MCHP) has expanded its Detroit Automotive Technology Center located in Novi, Michigan. The recent completion of the third phase of the expansion project has effectively doubled the center’s lab space, resulting in a 24,000-square-foot facility. This facility now stands as a crucial destination for automotive clients seeking innovative solutions and technical expertise. The expansion includes specialized labs dedicated to high-voltage and E-Mobility applications, providing clients with opportunities to explore cutting-edge technologies and engage with technical experts for support in their end applications and designs.

Microchip’s presence in Detroit dates back to 1999, and this expansion represents a significant step in their commitment to the automotive industry. The Detroit Automotive Technology Center now boasts a dedicated high-voltage lab featuring demonstrations of reference designs incorporating Microchip’s silicon carbide mSiC solutions, dsPIC Digital Signal Controllers (DSCs), and a wide array of analog and mixed-signal solutions. Additionally, the center offers support for central compute and zonal networks in ADAS platforms using Microchip’s PCIe® Gen 4 and Gen 5 switching hardware, single-pair Ethernet devices, and development tools.

Furthermore, Microchip’s Detroit location provides resources such as the Human Machine Interface (HMI) lab for the development of cockpit displays, touchscreens, Knob-on-Display (KoD) solutions, and other interfaces. The center also offers USB and networking development resources for pre-certification support of multimedia infotainment systems and media hubs, particularly focusing on advanced USB Type-C 3.2 protocol applications. In addition, there are facilities for the development of automotive security solutions, utilizing Microchip’s CryptoAutomotive TrustAnchor ICs, along with onsite security training to guide clients in implementing secure elements in various applications, including secure boot, message and hardware authentication, and more.

The strategic location of the Detroit Automotive Technology Center in Novi places it at the heart of the automotive industry, facilitating collaborations with leading Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), suppliers, and startups in the region. This expansion underscores Microchip’s dedication to providing essential resources and support to the automotive sector amidst the industry’s rapidly changing technological landscape.
