In a recent announcement, Wolfspeed, Inc. (NYSE: WOLF), a prominent player in silicon carbide technology, has appointed Thomas Werner as the new Chairman of the Board. This decision comes following the resignation of Darren Jackson, who served as Chairman for the past five years. Jackson will continue his role as a member of the Wolfspeed Board. Simultaneously, Stacy Smith, a current Board Member, has been assigned as the Chair of the Governance and Nominations Committee, succeeding John Replogle.
Werner, a board member since 2006, brings over 25 years of experience in semiconductor, disruptive technology, and energy organizations to his new position. He previously held the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors for SunPower Corporation, a company specializing in high-efficiency solar cells and solar panels. Wolfspeed’s President & CEO, Gregg Lowe, expressed his anticipation regarding Werner’s appointment, highlighting Werner’s extensive background in the energy and semiconductor sectors.
Werner expressed his commitment to his new role, acknowledging the pivotal moment Wolfspeed is in as it leads the transition from silicon to silicon carbide. He stated, “It is my honor to serve as Wolfspeed’s Board Chair, and help Wolfspeed as it leads the transition from silicon to silicon carbide. Wolfspeed is on the cusp of truly changing the power electronics industry, and I am excited to be a part of that transformation.”
In addition to Werner’s appointment, Stacy Smith, the newly appointed Chair of the Governance and Nominations Committee, brings a wealth of experience to Wolfspeed. Smith currently serves as the Executive Chairman of Kioxia Corporation, a major player in flash memory technology, and as the Non-Executive Chair of the Board at Autodesk, Inc., a global leader in design and make technology. His three-decade-long tenure at Intel Corporation in various key roles further strengthens his position.
