TSMC, a leading global chip-making company, will get 400 billion Yen from Japan Government as part of its fiscal 2021 supplementary budget of 600 billion yen, as per Nikkei. It will support advanced semiconductor manufacturing.
TSMC will use the fund to set up a new factory in Kumamoto prefecture, southwest Japan. The government will use the remaining 200 billion yen for setting other plants under consideration, including U.S. memory chipmaker Micron Technology and Japan’s Kioxia Holdings.
The construction of the new plant will commence from 2022 and the production is estimated to start from 2024. TSMC and Sony will jointly operate it as per ANI news.
The Japanese government is considering approving investment plans for semiconductors companies for their factories under the revised law whose focus is on developing high-speed 5G technology.
