In a strategic move aimed at bolstering its capabilities in the semiconductor arena, Spirit Electronics, a well-known distributor and outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) provider specializing in Aerospace and Defense components, has welcomed Dr. Naveed Sherwani to its team.
Dr. Sherwani, a seasoned semiconductor veteran, will serve as an advisor to support Spirit’s ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) product enablement programs. Spirit Electronics, recognized for its distribution of high-value components to Tier 1 and Tier 2 defense contractors and New Space satellite programs, is expanding its focus to include ASIC design with access to Texas Instruments and other domestic wafer foundry services.
In his role as an advisor, Dr. Sherwani is expected to leverage his extensive experience in delivering turnkey ASICs to the marketplace. With a portfolio boasting over 300 designs, he aims to contribute to innovative solutions in product design and application-specific products. This move is anticipated to empower Spirit’s Aerospace and Defense customer base, enabling them to strengthen their supply chain, control costs, and ensure adaptability to evolving needs.
Spirit Electronics, committed to providing domestically manufactured ASICs for both legacy replacement and advanced solutions, envisions Dr. Sherwani’s involvement as a means to expand their offerings in digital, RF, and mixed-signal designs. The company aims to enhance its capabilities with US-based foundry services, assembly, and test capabilities.
Dr. Sherwani emphasized the efficiency and effectiveness of Spirit’s existing capabilities, stating, “Time and resources are saved, design errors are mitigated, and the outcome is nothing short of optimized excellence.” He highlighted the value of their in-house fabric and IP portfolio in reducing overall design costs and accelerating customer designs, fostering an unparalleled level of performance and flexibility.
Spirit Electronics CEO Marti McCurdy expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, citing Dr. Sherwani’s proven heritage as a significant asset. “With all of our other offerings under one umbrella, adding Naveed as an advisor for ASIC solutions, we say let it rain,” McCurdy noted. Notably, Spirit operates as a Veteran-owned company and employs numerous veterans from all branches, contributing to their commitment to excellence in the Aerospace and Defense industry.
