SMTC Names Buseman CEO, Smith Chairman in Leadership Transition

MACOM Appoints Telecom Veteran Raj Shanmugaraj to Board of Directors

SMTC Corporation, a prominent provider of electronics manufacturing services in North America, announces significant leadership changes. Effective May 13, 2024, Mike Buseman steps into the role of President & Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Ed Smith, who transitions to the position of Executive Chairman of the Board.

Bringing over three decades of experience in the electronics industry, Buseman’s appointment is met with enthusiasm. His most recent tenure as President and CEO of Zentech Manufacturing, coupled with previous high-ranking positions at global giants like Plexus, Avnet, and Benchmark Electronics, positions him well to steer SMTC into its next phase of growth and innovation.

Ed Smith, who has steered SMTC as CEO since 2017, will continue to play a pivotal role in the company’s strategic direction from his new perch as Executive Chairman. Under Smith’s leadership, SMTC witnessed remarkable growth, doubling its revenue on a pro forma organic basis and cementing its position as an industry leader.

Commenting on the transition, Ed Smith expressed confidence in Buseman’s ability to lead, citing his track record of strategic execution and extensive operational expertise. In response, Buseman conveyed his commitment to building on SMTC’s established foundation, driving its strategy forward, and ensuring continued success for customers, employees, and stakeholders alike.

Upon assuming his role, Buseman will also join SMTC’s Board of Directors.
