SkyWater Pursues Funding Boost to Strengthen Semiconductor Production

US Mexico to Partner on Semiconductor Supply Chain Development

SkyWater Technology, a prominent semiconductor manufacturer listed on NASDAQ as SKYT, has officially submitted a comprehensive application to the CHIPS Program Office of the U.S. Department of Commerce. This application seeks funding under the CHIPS and Science Act to upgrade equipment and modernize operations at its Minnesota-based semiconductor manufacturing facility.

The primary objective behind this submission is to address concerns surrounding semiconductor supply chain disruptions and their potential impacts on national security. As a key supplier to the U.S. government, SkyWater aims to enhance its capabilities to support critical U.S. defense programs through these proposed upgrades.

John Sakamoto, President and COO of SkyWater, highlighted the importance of this application, emphasizing its role in fortifying the company’s production services. Sakamoto stated, “Our CHIPS submission represents a key stepping stone for SkyWater in modernizing and bolstering our production services, thereby ensuring a consistent supply of trusted silicon for critical DoD and commercial programs.”

Should this funding be secured, it is anticipated to accelerate technology development and market readiness for SkyWater’s customers across diverse sectors, including aerospace, defense, automotive, biomedical, and IoT.

SkyWater’s proactive approach to collaborate with federal and state partners underscores its commitment to national security and economic stability. The company intends to work closely with stakeholders, policymakers, and industry leaders to fortify supply chain resilience and drive innovation in microelectronics development.
