Samsung Electronics has announced its groundbreaking collaboration with Hyundai Motor Company to integrate Samsung’s latest automotive processor, the Exynos Auto V920, into Hyundai’s upcoming next-generation in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems. This strategic partnership marks a significant milestone as Samsung enters the automotive semiconductor market alongside Hyundai, a renowned leader in the global mobility industry.

Jae Geol Pyee, Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, System LSI Business at Samsung Electronics, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to be collaborating with Hyundai Motor, a prominent global mobility manufacturer, and we anticipate that this partnership will further solidify our position in the automotive infotainment space. Through close collaboration with our global customers and ecosystem partners, we will continue to create state-of-the-art automotive chip solutions that offer a safe and enjoyable mobility experience.”

The Exynos Auto V920 represents Samsung’s third-generation automotive processor designed specifically for advanced IVI systems. With notable upgrades in CPU, graphics, and neural processing performance, the V920 processor promises to deliver an exceptional in-vehicle experience by enabling real-time display of critical driving information, seamless playback of graphics-rich video content, and immersive gaming experiences across multiple displays.

Equipped with 10 of Arm’s latest cores optimized for autonomous driving, the V920 CPU boasts an impressive 1.7 times greater processing performance compared to its predecessor. The processor’s support for LPDDR5 memory ensures efficient management of up to six high-resolution displays for dashboard, infotainment, and rear seat entertainment systems, while also facilitating connectivity with up to 12 camera sensors that capture crucial visual information.

The Exynos Auto V920 introduces significant enhancements in graphics and artificial intelligence (AI) performance, resulting in enhanced visual presentation on displays and improved driver interaction with in-car information. The V920 integrates advanced GPU cores with graphics processing capabilities up to two times faster than its predecessor, enabling a rich graphical user interface (GUI) for an immersive user experience.

By incorporating the latest computing cores, the neural processing unit (NPU) of the Exynos Auto V920 achieves an impressive 2.7 times greater performance compared to the previous generation. This advancement enables the V920 to support enhanced driver monitoring features, enhancing driver safety by accurately detecting the driver’s state and promptly assessing the surroundings for a safer driving environment.

To further ensure driver safety, the V920’s embedded safety island adheres to Automotive Safety Integrity Level B (ASIL-B) requirements. This innovative feature detects and manages faults in real-time, providing robust security and reliability for the IVI system.

The collaboration between Samsung and Hyundai Motor Company in integrating the Exynos Auto V920 processor into Hyundai’s next-generation IVI systems, scheduled for release by 2025, is poised to redefine in-vehicle infotainment technology. This partnership represents a significant leap forward in automotive semiconductor innovation, reinforcing Samsung’s position as a leading player in the rapidly evolving automotive industry.
