The Indian government’s new chips to startup program will ready a talent pool of highly skilled engineers to help India turn into a semiconductor hub, reports Economic Times.
The government, on Wednesday, cleared a Rs.76,000 crore incentive scheme to boost semiconductors and display fabrication production in the country. According to Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, nearly 20% of the global semiconductor industry’s engineers are from India, further adding that the government has decided to start a C2S (Chips to Startup) program to create a talent pool of 85,000 high-quality, highly qualified, well-trained engineers.
Talking at a press briefing after the Cabinet meeting, Ashwini said, “85,000 BTech, MTech and PhD engineers will be prepared under this program”, further mentioning that India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved a vision for next 20 years. Under this vision, a complete semiconductor ecosystem, high-quality jobs and creation of well-trained talent pool will be created in the country.
As union cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved to a Rs.76,000 crore PLI scheme for semiconductor, it will create massive employment opportunities. It will also export momentum for the economy.
