In a significant move within the LED industry, GE Licensing (GEL), Current Lighting Solutions, LLC (Current), Savant Systems Inc., and Seoul Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (SSC) have announced the formalization of a patent license agreement. This strategic collaboration grants SSC access to the widely recognized PFS (also known as KSF) patent portfolio, encompassing various application fields in the LED industry.

Under this agreement, Seoul Semiconductor has become the exclusive beneficiary of GEL’s PFS patent portfolio for diverse applications, including display, lighting, and automotive sectors. The implications of this partnership are particularly crucial in the burgeoning electric vehicle industry, where the integration of in-vehicle displays and lighting utilizing PFS technology is expected to significantly lower power consumption, aligning with the industry’s growing emphasis on sustainability and energy efficiency.

Patrick Patnode, President of GE Licensing, expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration, stating, “We are pleased to welcome SSC back to the ranks of our PFS licensees, so that we can both focus on innovating and creating LED products that are critical to the world.”

Chung H. Lee, the founder of Seoul Semiconductor and Seoul VioSys, emphasized the company’s commitment to respecting intellectual property rights. Lee stated, “Seoul Semiconductor, as a company that respects intellectual property rights, values the patent portfolios of GE Licensing, Current Lighting, and Savant. The rights granted today in this license agreement further strengthen Seoul Semiconductor’s 2nd Generation Patent Portfolio of 18,000 patents and significantly enhance our ability to move products to the market.”

This development underscores the ongoing efforts within the LED industry to foster innovation and advance technology while respecting intellectual property rights. As the partnership between GEL, Current Lighting, Savant, and Seoul Semiconductor takes effect, the industry eagerly anticipates the advancements and breakthroughs that will arise from this collaboration.
