Axiro Semiconductor Pvt Ltd has inaugurated a high-capacity semiconductor design centre in Whitefield, Bengaluru, as part of its expansion in India’s growing chip design ecosystem. The new facility supports Axiro’s operations as a large-scale fabless semiconductor company, with its integrated circuits currently shipped in millions each month to global clients such as Ericsson, Nokia, Hughes, and Siemens.
The Bengaluru centre will focus on the development of advanced semiconductor solutions for 5G and 6G communications, defence, satellite systems, and industrial IoT. Axiro’s fabless model prioritizes chip design and intellectual property development, while production is outsourced to global foundries. This structure allows for scalability, operational efficiency, and a streamlined path to market for high-performance chips.
The company also announced a $36 million investment from CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd, part of the Murugappa Group. The move marks CG Power’s formal entry into the semiconductor design sector and aligns with national initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s presence in global semiconductor value chains.
The inauguration was attended by senior representatives from government and industry, including Sushil Pal, CEO of the India Semiconductor Mission; Vellayan Subbiah, Chairman of CG Power and Industrial Solutions; and officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
Speaking at the event, Sushil said, “I see Axiro as a milestone for India’s semiconductor mission. To me, it reflects the vision of self-reliance with global relevance.”
Vellayan added, “I believe that close collaboration with technology partners and academic institutions will drive innovation in semiconductor design. At Axiro, we’re committed to delivering breakthrough solutions with excellence at the core.”
The new design centre includes advanced R&D labs and infrastructure to support the planned doubling of Axiro’s engineering workforce by 2026. The facility is also aligned with sustainable operational goals, backed by a structured ESG roadmap.
