IPC Hand Soldering Chennai Competition

The IPC Skill Challenge, one of India’s most prestigious competitions for shop floor technicians in the electronics sector, concluded its first event in Chennai today. The event witnessed more than 30 participants competing for the title of Indian Champion in both Hand Soldering and Wire Harness categories. Electronics Clap is the exclusive media partner for the IPC’s IEMI 2023 event.

Out of the total 30+ participants, 24 participants played in the Hand soldering category, while the remaining 6 participants competed in the Wire Harness category. Ten companies played Hand soldering, while three companies participated in Wire Harness. Vijayabharati from Seimens Ltd, won the Hand Soldering competition while S Sharan Yabesh from Avalon Technologies was declared the runner up. For the Wire Harness competition, Arun Kumar from Avalon Technologies emerged as winner and Kamal Kannan from HTL Ltd. stood as runner up.

The IPC India Hand Soldering Competition has been growing in popularity since its inception in 2011. The competition recognizes and felicitates shop floor technicians, who are often overlooked in an organization. The event has received an overwhelming response from a broad spectrum of industries, both from the private and government sectors.

IPC India conducts more than 10 semi-final rounds in different cities throughout India, and the technicians selected in the semi-finals compete for the final title of Indian Champion. The winner of the competition is eligible to represent India in the IPC’s World Hand Soldering Championship.

The competition is organized by IPC India through a committee and with support from member volunteer experts from the industry. The participants are tasked with building a functional electronics assembly within the allotted time frame. The competence of the assembly is judged by the Master Trainers in accordance with IPC-A-610H Class 3 criteria, the speed at which the assembly is produced, and the overall electrical functionality of the assembly.

Last year’s winner for Hand soldering was Raja Sekaran S. The IPC Skill Challenge promises to be an exciting and challenging event, and we look forward to seeing who will emerge as the next Indian Champion.
