Alphawave Semi

Alphawave Semi, a prominent global player in high-speed connectivity solutions for technology infrastructure, has announced an expansion of its collaboration with Samsung, now encompassing the cutting-edge 3nm process node. The move allows Samsung Foundry platform customers to benefit from Alphawave Semi’s state-of-the-art high-performance connectivity intellectual property (IP) and chiplet technologies. These offerings include interfaces like 112 Gigabits-per-second (Gbps) Ethernet and PCI Express Gen6/CXL 3.0, which are crucial for building complex systems-on-a-chip (SoCs) capable of meeting the escalating demands of data-intensive applications, such as generative artificial intelligence (AI), and the associated infrastructure required by global data centers.

Jongshin Shin, Corporate Executive Vice President of Foundry IP Development at Samsung Electronics, emphasized the significance of Alphawave Semi as a key partner for Samsung Foundry. Shin acknowledged Alphawave Semi’s status as an industry leader in high-performance connectivity IP and chiplet solutions and expressed satisfaction in the deep collaboration between the two companies across multiple customer designs and process generations, spanning from 5nm and 4nm to the latest 3nm technology. Shin further conveyed eagerness for future opportunities to leverage Alphawave Semi’s connectivity IP in the Samsung Foundry platform, both in 2023 and beyond.

The surge in generative AI has led to a remarkable transformation in data center connectivity, and Alphawave Semi is at the forefront of this revolution. The company’s technology not only empowers AI infrastructure but also provides essential connectivity solutions within the data centers that house AI applications. Tony Pialis, CEO and co-founder of Alphawave Semi, highlighted the significance of the expanded collaboration with Samsung Foundry, specifically in the 3nm domain. He emphasized that Alphawave Semi’s advanced high-speed connectivity IP technologies enable unparalleled levels of performance, flexibility, and scalability for hyperscalers and data infrastructure customers.

Samsung Foundry now offers Alphawave Semi’s high-performance connectivity PHY IP, including 112 Gbps Ethernet and PCIe Gen6/CXL 3.0, as well as Universal Chiplet ExpressTM (UCIeTM), in its nodes. Alphawave Semi also provides these solutions as fully integrated IP subsystems, alongside controller IP, to deliver comprehensive connectivity solutions to its customers.

The strengthened partnership between Alphawave Semi and Samsung comes at a crucial time, as the demand for high-performance connectivity in AI and data centers continues to soar. By combining their expertise, the two companies aim to address the evolving needs of the industry and drive innovation in the realm of advanced connectivity solutions.
