Microchip Technology (Nasdaq: MCHP) announces the release of TimeProvider® 4100 grandmaster firmware version 2.4, equipped with an embedded BlueSky firewall function. Designed to safeguard against security threats, this firmware version offers operators in critical infrastructure robust protection against spoofing, jamming, and other potential disruptions to GNSS signals.
Randy Brudzinski, Vice President of Microchip’s frequency and time systems business unit, emphasized the paramount importance of security in ensuring the reliability of time references. He highlighted the embedded BlueSky GPS firewall as a cost-effective solution that provides highly effective protection, instilling trust in the time signal used by grandmasters.
In addition to security enhancements, the TimeProvider 4100 series v2.4 implements IEEE 1588 power profiles, enabling gateway capabilities between PTP telecom and power profiles. This facilitates the convergence of Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) networks, supporting modernization efforts in utility companies.
The TimeProvider 4100 series v2.4 also caters to the growing demand for synchronization in emerging private networks, offering support for the Time Sensitive Network (TSN) profile 802.1.AS. This feature provides private networks with accurate and autonomous time synchronization for coordinating Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
Addressing scalability needs, the TP4100 v2.4 can serve up to 2,000 Precise Time Protocol (PTP) clients, accommodating a wide range of deployment scenarios without the need for multiple grandmasters.
Furthermore, the TimeProvider 4100 series v2.4 introduces a new operation mode, allowing for the filtering of legacy input signals and functioning as a Synchronization Supply Unit (SSU). This enables the migration of legacy communication signal deployments to a modern architecture, ensuring compatibility with newer network protocols.
The TimeProvider 4100 series v2.4 boasts enhanced resiliency features, including software redundancy and additional models for redundancy configurations, providing flexibility and reliability in critical infrastructure synchronization solutions.
The TimeProvider 4100 v2.4 grandmaster is now available for purchase, offering operators a comprehensive synchronization solution for their critical infrastructure networks. For more information and purchase inquiries, customers can contact a Microchip sales representative or authorized distributor.
