CMC Microsystems, Canada’s foremost hardware technology facilitator, and AIoT Canada, a leading Canadian technology cluster dedicated to AI + IoT, have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to propel Canada’s AI, IoT, and semiconductor advanced technology ecosystem. The MOU, signed during AIoT Canada’s Spring Summit in Ottawa amidst industry luminaries and stakeholders, including The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry, signifies a pivotal collaboration to foster innovation and growth in these critical sectors.
Under this agreement, both organizations will mutually support their programs to accelerate the growth of startups and emerging firms in AI, IoT, and semiconductor technologies. They will collaborate on workshops and training events aimed at preparing the future workforce. Leveraging their expertise, CMC and AIoT Canada will offer microcredentials and industrial competency certificates in AI and IoT technology development and maintenance.
Eric Janosz, Cofounder & President of AIoT Canada, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, citing CMC’s track record in advanced technology development and manufacturing as a boon for startups in their network. Gordon Harling, President and CEO of CMC, emphasized the significance of AIoT Canada’s role in connecting AI and IoT domains, underscoring the mutual benefit of accelerating product development and time-to-market.
Moreover, firms associated with AIoT Canada will gain access to CMC’s Virtual Incubator Environment (VIE), offering essential tools, technologies, and services for startups. This collaboration will democratize access to design and simulation tools, technical support, and fabrication facilities in microelectronics, silicon photonics, and MEMS, fostering innovation and competitiveness.
The partnership also extends to supporting FABrIC, a proposal aimed at securing Canada’s future in semiconductors, championed by CMC. Harling and Janosz highlighted FABrIC’s potential to elevate Canada’s semiconductor and advanced technology ecosystem on a global scale.
