SiMa.ai’s New $70M Boost Fuels Next-Gen Edge AI

Department of Defense Invests Additional $160 Million in CHIPS Act Funds to Propel Microelectronics Leadership

Silicon Valley-based SiMa.ai, a leading provider of software-centric embedded edge machine learning systems-on-chip (MLSoC), has announced securing an additional $70 million in funding. The funding round was led by Maverick Capital, with participation from Point72 and Jericho, as well as existing investors Amplify Partners, Dell Technologies Capital, Lip-Bu Tan, and others. With this infusion, SiMa.ai has raised a total of $270 million to date, enabling the company to meet increasing customer demand for edge AI/ML solutions.

2018-founded SiMa.ai plans to utilize the newly raised capital to continue meeting customer demands with its first-generation MLSoC, while simultaneously accelerating the development and launch of its second-generation MLSoC, slated for release in Q1 of 2025.

The forthcoming second-generation MLSoC promises to introduce a single software-centric platform catering to all edge AI needs. It will scale with customers as their AI/ML journey evolves, supporting various modalities, from computer vision to multimodal generative AI.

Krishna Rangasayee, Founder and CEO of SiMa.ai, emphasized the transformative impact of AI, particularly generative AI, on human-machine interaction. He expressed confidence in SiMa.ai’s technology leadership and its ability to equip customers with a unified platform for diverse edge AI applications.

According to Andrew Homan, Senior Managing Director at Maverick Capital, the startups’s technological prowess and forward momentum position it as a key player in the paradigm shift toward widespread adoption of AI at the edge.

SiMa.ai’s current generation MLSoC has already demonstrated market leadership in performance and power efficiency, as validated by recent MLPerf Inference benchmark results. With continuous innovation in both hardware and software, SiMa.ai’s MLSoC adapts to any framework, network, model, or sensor, paving the way for future advancements in edge AI.

The second-generation MLSoC integrates innovations from industry leaders such as Arm, Synopsys, and TSMC, offering enhanced performance and power optimization for edge AI applications.

SiMa.ai’s strategic collaboration with Arm, Synopsys, and TSMC underscores its commitment to delivering cutting-edge AI solutions for the embedded edge, catering to evolving customer demands and driving innovation in the AI ecosystem.
