Tech company Continental is intensifying efforts to localize research and development (R&D) and manufacturing processes for connected technologies in India. The move comes in response to the surging demand for connected solutions in the region. Continental aims to collaborate closely with local Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to provide tailored solutions, including body electronics, 4G/5G technologies, and GPS systems.
Continental’s strategy involves a deepened partnership with Indian OEMs to grasp the evolving needs of customers in the country. Jean-François Tarabbia, Head of Architecture and Networking business area at Continental Automotive, stressed the importance of the Indian market, stating, “India is an important market for Continental, and we continue to expand our business for connected technologies in the country. With our strong R&D presence in India, we cater to the needs of the global market.”
Prashanth Doreswamy, President and CEO of Continental India, expressed confidence in the growth of connected vehicle technologies in India, noting that these technologies have become a significant feature in new car launches. He stated, “With our competencies in both R&D and local manufacturing, we aim to deliver solutions with high functionality.”
Continental is strategically evaluating the demand for products, leading to significant investments in localization efforts. The company aims to increase production capacity for connectivity and body electronics products, with plans to manufacture over 1 million units of connectivity-related products on the new production line. These efforts align with the company’s strategy of “Connect.Inform.Integrate,” focusing on technologies connecting vehicles with the cloud, other vehicles, pedestrians, and infrastructure.
Continental’s focus on connected technologies goes beyond convenience; it contributes to advancing Vision Zero – a future with Zero Fatalities, Zero Injuries, Zero Crashes. By enabling the sharing of safety-critical data between vehicles and infrastructure, these technologies play a vital role in reducing the frequency of crashes and casualties on the roads.
The company’s latest production line for connected technologies integrates smart manufacturing techniques, including robotic machinery and Industry 4.0 applications like Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and Digital Twin. These technologies ensure 100 percent traceability, operational efficiency, and scalability for future expansions.
Continental’s proactive approach to localization underscores its commitment to meeting the growing demand for connected mobility solutions in India while adhering to global safety standards. As the company strengthens its presence in the Indian market, it aims to enhance the overall driving experience and contribute to a safer future for all road users.
