HaiLa Technologies Inc., a leading Canadian fabless semiconductor and software company specializing in power-efficient radio communications solutions, has successfully secured $10.35 million in funding from new strategic investor Murata Electronics and existing partners including Stanford University, Mika, Ecofuel Fund, Chrysalix, and TandemLaunch. Notably, HaiLa Technologies also received non-dilutive financing from Sustainable Development Technology Canada and TechnoClimat Quebec. This brings HaiLa’s total funding to $16.8 million.

Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Montreal, HaiLa Technologies is dedicated to advancing power-efficient wireless technology. Their focus lies in developing low-power multi-protocol radio communication solutions for IoT devices. The company’s mission is to extend the lifespan of connected devices and reduce wireless sensor battery waste, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable IoT ecosystem.

Murata Electronics, a global leader in wireless technology and semiconductors, expressed enthusiasm for their strategic investment in HaiLa Technologies. “HaiLa’s team is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of power efficiency in wireless. We look forward to supporting the HaiLa team with this investment and bringing their technology to market,” said Mehul Udani, Vice President of Corporate Technology & Innovation, Murata Americas.

The newly acquired funds will be instrumental in advancing research and development efforts, enabling team expansion, and bringing HaiLa’s ultra-low-power system-on-chip (SoC) solutions to market. HaiLa’s cutting-edge technology aims to enable ambient Internet of Things (IoT) sensing by drastically reducing power consumption. This breakthrough will not only extend the operational life of wireless devices but also reduce the need for frequent battery replacements, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.

Derek Kuhn, CEO of HaiLa, expressed gratitude for the support and emphasized the collective mission of the company. “Our goal is to drive down power consumption in connected IoT sensing devices and work towards a level of power-efficiency that significantly reduces the overall battery requirement. This strategic partnership and the funding received validate the importance of HaiLa’s vision in the industry.”
